FIRST RESPONDER HIGHLIGHT:

Megan Pletcher
Executive Director of the Denver Police Foundation
Years of Service:
I have been the Executive Director for the Denver Police Foundation for four years. Previous to that, I served as the Program Manager and oversaw the Volunteer and Internship program at the Denver Police Department. I have always had a drive and desire to serve my community and am thrilled that I can continue to serve the community I work in AND Denver Police Officers.
Thing I am most proud of in my job:
While I am proud of the work I do on a daily basis, I am most proud of serving as the conduit that gets to help connect the community and the Denver Police Department. So often, there is a lack of understanding from both sides and I love that I get to help educate and bridge that gap. When I meet with a community group to share about the work I do and the work of the police department, to see the change and understanding that person now has for police officers, I know that I’ve done my job and helped open a dialogue to a supportive community. Our organization works tirelessly to ensure that the Department has all that they need, and oftentimes, those needs are also what the community would like the Department to have, but funding is usually an obstacle. Rallying our community to support their law enforcement department is one of the greatest joys of this job.
Best Crime Tip:
As the summer months hit us and folks are getting ready to head out of town, make sure that you won’t be returning as a victim of a crime!
– Have your mail delivery paused at the post office.
– If you have a package that will be delivered while you are away, invest in a secure package box
– Before leaving home, remove the car registration that contains your address (typically, two registrations are sent, one with and one without the address!) from your vehicle.
– Make sure that all of your doors and locks are secure before leaving (including the house door from your garage to house), and don’t forget to arm your security system.
– Leave a couple of lights on in throughout your house so it appears that someone is always home.
– Leave your front/garage porch lights on – light up your property!
– If you have valuables or money that you are not taking on your trip, take a moment and place them in a safe and secure location.
– Enlist one trusted friend or family member to know your itinerary – and ask them to check on your house daily.
– Do not share your vacation location on social media! Hold off on posting about your amazing trip until after you are home.
These small and simple tasks will make your house less desirable for those looking to burglarize and ruin your vacation!
How to best support the Foundation:
Please join us at the Powell’s house in CCHN (261 Vine St.) on Sunday July 16th from 11-4 or join us for a Back the Blue BBQ on September 14, 2023. Both events will aim to show our support and raise funds to purchase Rifle Rated Ballistic Vests for your DPD Officers – No RSVP necessary for the Powell’s, but you must register for the Back the Blue BBQ here. All proceeds are 100% deductible and will go towards the purchase of ~600 rifle rated vests for officers.
